After moving through group play without allowing a goal, the U13 Boys Elm Grove Academy team captured the Mequon Dhaliwal Tournament, played October 15 and 16, in a penalty kick shootout against the hosts.
It was the day of the goalkeepers as Vikrum Purewal (usually a goalkeeper, playing a stretch at forward) slotted Peter Horner through for the go ahead goal with 10 minutes left in the championship. Mequon, who is currently undefeated in the Wisconsin State Premier League, equalized late and forced the shootout.
Dominic Clark and Peter Horner were the only Academy shooters to convert in the first five, but goalkeeper Nathan "Llama" Ellis came up with two big saves and one Mequon shooter missed wide. The shootout advanced to sudden death.
Ellis then stepped out of the net to take the sixth shot, which he calmly slotted into the left side netting. Following suit, Mequon sent its goalkeeper up to shoot. But Ellis came up huge again, turning his shot wide and earning the Academy team the title.
Congratulations on the big win, boys!
