The Elm Grove Select U14 Girls got their fall season off to a fine start, winning the U14 Gold division at the SC Waukesha Augustfest Tournament, played on August 27-28 in Waukesha at the UWW campus.
The girls, who are slotted in the WYSA's 1st Division, finished with three wins and a tie, knocking off one WYSA Premier team and getting two wins and a tie against three other 1st Division teams.
The girls started off the weekend with 2-0 shutout of the SC Waukesha Storm, the Premier team, on Saturday morning. Later that afternoon, they battled Middleton-Yahara SC White to a 1-1 draw.
An early Sunday morning game saw the girls topple Madison 56ers White by a 4-1 margin. The win gave the girls the top spot in the bracket's point competition, pitting them against the second place MK United (Muskego) in their final game. In a hard-fought game against a large and physical United team, the girls came away with a another 2-0 shutout to claim the tourny championship trophies.
Team members include: Dana Anderson, Mariana Cameli, Haley Catterson, Jordan Clarksen, Mary Garofalo, Brenda Gonzalez, Mellisa Heck, Katie Klinger, Hannah Nell, Kathryn Ruesh, Maggie Shanahan, Rhiana Stelter, Carla Valadez, and Mackenzie Wacker. Katie Jacobson and Molly Mitchell were unavailable this weekend. Thanks to Karly Lentz and Erin Sullivan from the EGSC's U13 Academy team for playing up as guest players this weekend. The team is coached by Danny Madrigal and Digital Takawira.
