Jamie Schmelzer and his EGSC's Boys U15 team have captured the the 2004 WYSA State Cup Tournament U15 Championship!
The boys defeated the Madison 56ers on Saturday, June 19th at the EGVP by a narrow 2-1 margin, in double-overtime.
The premier took a 1-0 lead into the half, but the 56ers scored on a header off a long throw-in to knot the score at 1-1 in the second half. The teams battled through a tense, scoreless overtime period, and then went into a second overtime. With time running out, and a possible shoot-out looming, Donald St. George snuck in near the goal and manage to punch the ball by the keeper for the golden goal, giving the Elm Grove team the state championship!
Previously, the Premier team defeated Yahara by a 6-0 margin in their preliminary game. In their quarterfinal, they hosted Green Bay Metro and came away with a 3-0 victory, advancing to the semi-final. The Premier thumped the Wausau Force in the semi by a 7-0 margin to advance to the U15 championship game. And, the happy ending, with the exciting 2-1 win over the 56ers for the title!
