Fire Takes Second at Racine Lighthouse Tournament

U13 Boys Fire The Elm Grove Fire, an EGSC U13 Boys select soccer team, took second place in the 2003 Racine Lighthouse Tournament, played October 11-12 at the SCORe complex in Racine, Wisconsin.

The team opened tournament play by defeating the Bavarians 1-0 on penalty kick from Sean Morrissey; Lindenhurst (IL) 1-0 on goal by Robbie Mettelman; and the Croatian Eagles Rampage 3-0 on goals by Jeff Groskopf (2) and Brendan Murphy.

In the championship game, the Fire gave up two early goals to the Croatian Eagles and, despite dominating play the rest of the game, could not manage a score. They ended up losing by that 2-0 margin and bringing home the second place trophies. The team played stalwart defense throughout the tournament, led by goalie Andrew Hendricks and defenders Ian Linsmeier, Sam Manegold, Daniel Patton, Reed Smith and Joe Steinle.
