Futsal Versus the Walled Indoor Soccer

None of the successful major soccer playing countries in the world including, Brazil, Italy, Germany, France, Holland, play indoor soccer in hockey rinks. Instead they play Futsal, which is the only form of indoor soccer approved by FIFA. Before entering another "hockey rink" style league, ask yourself "How important is skills development to my players?" This is the question coaches are asking and the conclusion people seem to be drawing is that Futsal is the wave of the future. 

Futsal present an incredible opportunity for soccer players to get numerous touches on the ball and take their soccer skills to their next level.. So what is so different about Futsal and why is it better than walled indoor soccer? Futsal is the only Indoor form of soccer approved by FIFA and has over 12 million players worldwide.

Why Futsal? 

REINFORCES OUTDOOR SKILLS & TACTICS

Control and possession of the ball; 1v1 offensive and defensive skills; Attacking and defending as a unit; Offers greater number of shooting opportunities; also gives goalkeepers more chances to actually improve their goalkeeping skills. Futsal is a properly configured, reduced version of the outdoor game, as opposed to a completely different sport.

PROMOTES BETTER TECHNIQUE

Compared to walled soccer or large indoor field soccer, Futsal places a greater premium on ball control. Players with the ball must use proper technique to maintain control and must seek out other players in space. Players without the ball must move to "real" space and must truly support their teammates. Without control and technique you cannot expect to succeed in Futsal. There is no incentive to "kick and run" because the field is too small and packed with players

TEACHES

Proper timing of runs to create "real" space, while supporting the attack, Precise passing and shooting, Decision-making skills.

SMALLER FIELD

Eliminates "Kick and run," creates rapid repetition of outdoor-relevant situations improving skill and technique.

SAFER

No slide tackling; No shoulder charging; No walls - to pin opponents against. Don’t waste time developing "wall-based" skills not used in outdoor soccer. In Futsal players develop good shot making decisions and accurate passing skills.
