Select Soccer ProgramTeamsEGSC's competitive soccer program begins with U11 players. It is comprised of both boys and girls teams, from U11 through U18. EGSC forms one, two or three teams at each age level, based on the number of players trying out. In total, there are typically 25 to 30 teams with 300 to 400 players competing for EGSC at the select level.Team SizeFor 2005-06, U11 and U12 teams will play 8v8, with a roster size of 12. This is a state-mandated change from the WYSA. All other teams at U13 and above will remain the same, i.e., 11v11 system with a max roster of 18. Team LevelsThe club provides several team options for the boys and girls. At each age level, depending on the number of players, there will likely be:
TryoutsTeam selection is through competitive tryouts, which are held in June and July of each year for the following August 1 through July 31 playing season. Tryouts for U11 through U14 teams are held on or after the first Monday in June. Tryouts for U15 and older boys teams are held on or after the first Monday in July; U15 and older girls tryouts are held following the conclusion of the spring high school season in mid-June. Tryouts are held on weeknights at the Elm Grove Village Park, and are conducted by the club's Pro Coaching Staff. Typically there are two nights of tryouts for a given team; a third session may be held if deemed necessary by the coach, or in the event of rain. Playing UpPer EGSC club policy, U9 players are eligible to participate in the U11 tryouts, subject to the same evaluation and selection process as U10 players. No special permission or pre-screening is required. In addition, U10 and older players may also tryout for teams at older age groups, without any special permission. EvaluationsDuring the tryouts, players are evaluated and placed on Academy, Select or Competitive teams as appropriate, based on their technique, skills, and level of play. Being placed on one of these teams differs from participating on the Recreational team in several aspects.
NotificationPlayers are notified of their selection to an EGSC select team by the team's coach. This is typically accomplished via phone calls from the coach within 24 to 48 hours of the completion of the tryout. Sometimes, a coach may inform players on the field at the conclusion of the tryout session, but most often follow-up phone calls are made. RegistrationPlayers interested in trying out for the Academy, Select, or Competitive team do not need to complete a Player Registration form during the club's spring registration period. Once the tryouts are completed, they will be notified by the coach or the Club Registrar as to what paperwork is required, based on their placement. Select Team Registration - Team Manager InfoEach select team must register with the Waukesha district. You will get a team roster and player cards when this is complete. The manager of each team must submit the following to the Elm Grove Soccer Club registrar in order to register:
Recreational TeamsPlayers who are not interested in playing at the Academy, Select, or Competitive level will be placed on a Recreational team. They will need to complete a Player Registration form during the spring registration period. In addition, players who are not placed on the Academy, Select, or Competitive teams after tryouts will be placed on the Recreational team. Club Pass - Player MovementThe EGSC utilizes the WYSA's Club Pass. This pass enables players to move from their designated team to another team within the club, at a higher age level or level of competition. Movement can occur to provide additional players to a team in the event of a vacation, injury, illness, or other absences. Movement can also occur as a result of player development. In other words, depending on effort, skill level, and commitment of a player, he/she can be moved to a higher level team. LeaguesThe select teams participate in a number of leagues run by the WYSA, including the Premier Division and First Division of the WYSA State Leagues, and the A, B and C divisions of the Metro Regional Youth Soccer League (MYRSL) for boys, and the Southeast Competitive Soccer League (SECL) for girls. These leagues are comprised of teams from southeastern Wisconsin, predominantly the five-county, metro-Milwaukee area, but sometimes from as far away as Madison and Green Bay. These leagues play approximately eight games in each of the spring and fall seasons. Playing SeasonsThe younger U11-U14 select teams play both fall and spring seasons; their league playing season begins after Labor Day, takes a break for winter, resumes in early spring and ends in late May. For the older U15-U19 players, the club teams play only half a season, opposite the high school soccer season. In Wisconsin, the boy's high school season is in the fall, so the club teams play in the spring. For girls it's the opposite - the club season is in the fall while their high school season is in the spring. Games are played on Saturdays and Sundays, generally between 12:00pm and 5:00pm. Select games are typically scheduled for the afternoons, to allow many of these boys and girls who are young referees to be able to ref games in the mornings for the younger U6-U10 recreational players. Game SchedulesSchedules are set by the WYSA State leagues. Our schedules page has links to the game schedules provided by the WYSA. Indoor PlayThe select teams also participate in indoor league play during the winter at either the Brookfield or Uihlein indoor soccer complexes. Generally teams will play two sessions of indoor, sometimes all three. TournamentsIn addition to outdoor league play in the fall and spring, select teams participate in three to five tournaments in the spring and fall seasons. Each tournament will provide the team with from three to five games, depending on how far they advance. Most teams conclude their season with Elm Grove's Memorial Day Tournament in late May, whereas some teams may participate in tournaments into June and July. Many teams also participate in Wisconsin's State Cup Tournament. PracticesPractices are held on weekday evenings at the Elm Grove Village Park, and other area schools and churches. Select teams typically practice two or three nights per week during the playing season. During the preseason, many coaches will conduct additional practices and conditioning sessions. The location and day/time of the practices are up to the coach. Summer Camps/Academy TrainingPlayers are encouraged to attend the summer soccer camps being sponsored by the club. They are taught by professional-level coaches, who focus on player development and technical skill training. Players who are placed on the Academy, Select, and Competitive teams after the July/July tryouts are eligible for the summer Academy Training Program.
