In the Community Room which is located in the basement of the Village Hall. It will conclude with a Q&A.

EGSC Staff Coaches Ben Shepherd (UW-Milwaukee Assistant Coach) & Steve Bode (Marquette University Assistant Coach) will do a presentation on the “College Recruiting Process”

  • What do I need to do to get recruited?
  • How early should I start? Is it too late?
  • What’s the process?
  • Etc…

These are some of the questions to bring with you to this important event

Two More Players Verbally Commit for 2012

Joe Naughton and Stu McBain, both from the EGSC Under-18 team that is coming off of three consecutive State Cup titles, have become the fourth and fifth verbal commitments for the class of 2012.

Naughton has chosen to play at the University of Wisconsin and will join Max Jentsch (EGSC 2010) in Madison and former EGSC goalkeeper coach Brad Swenby.  Naughton has enjoyed great success over his last 3 years after winning three consecutive State Cup titles with EGSC and two consecutive Wisconsin high school state championships with Marquette University HIgh School

McBain is heading to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he will join EGSC staff coach Ben Shephard, who is also an assistant for the Panthers.  McBain has been a part of all three consecutve State Cup titles as well for EGSC.  He will enjoy seeing some familiar faces at UWM - with Danny Lemus (EGSC 2012), Cesar Castillo (EGSC 2012) and Josh Rohde (EGSC 2011) all going to be at UWM in 2012.

Naughton and Mcbain join teammates Mac Wheeler (Marquette University), Lemus (UWM) and Castillo (UWM) in making their decisions to pursue college soccer.  Elm Grove Soccer Club has now enjoyed seeing 25 of its players in the last 3 years make verbal commitments to play in college.

Three Elm Grove Soccer Club Players Take Part in Division 1 NCAA Tournament

EGSC players Eric Schoendorf, Andy Raymonds and Peter Horner helped their teams reach the NCAA tournament in their first year of playing college soccer.  Schoendorf, Raymonds and Horner - just 5 months removed from regionals with EGSC - all gained valuable collegiate experience as freshman.

Schoendorf, Raymonds and the Loyola University of Chicago Ramblers entered the Horizon League Tournament as the sixth seed and made a run through the tournament to gain an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. They beat top seeded Valparaiso in the semi-finals and second seeded Wright State in the finals, becoming the lowest seeded team to win the Horizon League tournament.  They then had to travel to Bradley to play the Braves in Peoria on November 17th and saw a good run come to an end through a 2-1 loss.  Raymonds tallied the lone goal for the Ramblers.

Horner and the Northwestern Wildcats clinched their way into the NCAA tournament by winning the Big Ten double.  Northwestern went undefeated in the Big Ten regular season and captured the title through a 1-0 win at Michigan on November 5th and then returned to the same field in Ann Arbor the following week for the Big Ten Tournament.  After a first round bye, Northwestern came from behind against Indiana to advance to the finals via penalty kicks.  In the final, the Wildcats fought back from behind once again from a 1-0 deficit to beat Penn State 2-1 to bring home their second Big Ten title.  By winning the Big Ten tournament, they received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and were assigned to play at the defending national champion, Akron. Horner and Northwestern saw their historic season come to an end through a 3-1 loss to Akron.

The U14 Girls Blues coached by Greg Kosmider took 1st place at the Racine Lighthouse Classic Tournament with 3 wins and a draw, out scoring the opposition 9 goals to 0.  After prevailing by 1-0 tallys twice on Saturday and drawing on 0-0 on Sunday morning the team erupted for a 7-0 win in the final match. Kudos to Alana Michaels for her airtight goal keeping in 4 consecutive shutouts and also to goal scorers Emily Cullen and Marissa Jurasovich. Outstanding defense provided by Houstan Vassel, Tori Hansen, Tara Zembinski, Lauren Arzbraecher. Midfield play controlled extremely well by Natalie Hartwig, Madison Hummel, Angela Trapp, Hannah Stutt, and McKenna Johnson. Crucial contributions up front from Eleana Felker, and McKenna Fitterer. Regrettably unavailable due to injury were Claire Manske and Wenmei Whalen and Tori Schieble.

A week later the U14 Girls Blues avenged the draw with a 5-0 victory over Racine United while wearing their newly minted pink EGSC shirts in acknowledgment of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The team has already raised over $200.00 this October through the purchase of our pink shirts and by passing a donation box after each goal scored in our Goals Against Cancer drive to benefit the Susan G Komen for the Cure Foundation.

U14 Girls Blues take 2nd place at the Battle on the Border

The EGSC U14 Blues Girls took second place at the Battle On The Border tournament that is held in Kenosha, WI.  They beat Racine United 5-0 first match, Milwaukee Sport Club Maroon 3-0 2nd match, Libertyville Black 4-0 3rd match, and lost to Inter Chicago Premier 1-5 in final match. Goal scorers on the weekend were Emily Cullen, Tori Hansen, Natalie Hartwig, and Tori Schieble. Alana Michaels and Claire Manske combined in goal for the 3 shutout victories.

The U-12 Girls Blues took the top flight in the SC Waukesha Augustfest tournament on August 21.  The girls went 4-0, beating SC Waukesha 5-2, Rush 11-1, North Shore 1-0 and SC Waukesha in the final 3-2.  Nine different players scored with Brandi Thompson taking the Golden Boot.

U18 Lady Blues capture Waunakee Cup!
The U18 Elm Grove Lady Blues, coached by Frank Crivello , were crowned Champions of the Waunakee Soccer Cup this past weekend.  The girls went 4-0 on the weekend, with 3-0 wins over Mequon U17 and Allouez, followed by a hard-fought 2-1 over Wisconsin Rush 18s.  The final was a match of survival with a talented Wisconsin Rush U17 team.  It was 0-0 going into the final minute when Coach Crivello was just getting ready to write the penalty kick lineup.  That was when Sarah Baker's well-weighted through pass found Abbey Hoerchner's perfectly-timed run.  Hoerchner made no mistake pushing the ball past the goalkeeper and into an empty net, giving the Lady Blues the 1-0 win and the Championship!  Credit especially goes to Goalkeeper Sydney Nerad and Defenders Katie Mark, Ashley Siewert, Kelly Peterson, Lauren Winter, Aly Loepfe and Jane Cook.  The only goal conceded all weekend was on a free kick, meaning as a team, the Lady Blues didn't concede a goal in the run of play.  Coach Crivello had nothing but praise for his team: "We went into this tournament with 14 available players.  The girls had to navigate their way through long turnarounds between games, all that driving back and forth to the Madison area, injuries, and of course some difficult opponents.  This weekend speaks well to the character and mental toughness of our team, and we played some really good soccer in the process." The EGSC congratulates the U18 Lady Blues on a successful weekend!

The U-12 Elm Grove Blues won the FC Milwaukee Tournament on August 14th, beating Madison 56ers 4:1, FC Milwaukee 3:0, and SC Waukesha 5:3.  Stellar goalkeeping by Michael Windsor was a key in our victories.  Alex Mirsberger (3 goals), Ben Heydt (3 goals) and Austen Schweinert (4 goals) sparked the offense.

THREE-PEAT!

U17 Boys Premier fights off Polonia, captures third straight State Cup.

Winning a State Cup is hard enough.  So winning three in a row might seem impossible.

In Fond du Lac , the U17 Boys Premier team made the impossible a reality, as they beat Polonia 3-1 for their third consecutive State Cup win.

The final was very hotly contested and our boys needed all 90 minutes to see off a dangerous opponent.  The Grovers opened the scoring in the first half off a corner kick, with Jimmy Grunert setting up Nate Skarie for the finish.  Polonia kept attacking, and the back four of Danny Lemus, David Perez, Nate Skarie, and Mark Heydt worked well to cancel out their efforts.  Our 17 Boys Premier team would go into halftime with the 1-0 lead.

The boys would suffer a bit in the second half, as Polonia would find a tying goal (the only goal our boys would concede the entire tournament).  The 17s reacted well from it, putting together some nice combinations for chances to retake the lead.  The go ahead goal would come after a Polonia defender handled a corner kick in the penalty area.  The spot kick was coolly finished by Cesar Castillo, and the Grovers would reclaim the lead at 2-1.  The match would have plenty of incidents, where late in the match Polonia would be reduced to 10 men as a result of a red card.  Our boys worked hard to absorb the pressure in the closing stages of the game, and the third goal would come on the last kick of the match.  Jimmy Grunert again the set up man, springing Joe Naughton on the counter attack.  With Polonia's goalkeeper rushing out of his penalty area, and another defender closing in, Naughton neatly looped the ball past the 'keeper on the way to an empty net.  The final whistle had blown shortly thereafter, and our U17 Boys Premier team became champions again!

CHAMPIONS AT LAST!

U18 Boys Premier capture State Cup in style.

Coach Mike Huwiler said it best after the match, "hard work pays off."

Our U18 Boys Premier team dedicated themselves to this day, to this moment.  In the way was a talented Madison 56ers team.

Discipline in defense, with well-executed attacks, and most importantly, hard work.   All three were components used well by the Grovers as they went on to a comfortable 3-0 win in the final of the State Cup in Fond du Lac today.

The first half was balanced, each team trying to pull apart the other.  The opening goal was a thing of brilliance.  A free kick from 25 yards out, left-center, and Ryan Schultz struck it sweetly.  Schultz fired over the wall, at the left side of the goal, where the ball would dip under the bar and in the back of the net.  Our 18s took the lead 1-0.

The 56ers would try and answer, but Josh Rohde and the back four of Austin Zimmerman, Dustin Ashley, Andrew Doleziel, and Ryan Schultz kept things organized and did well to diffuse the opposing attack.  The teams would go into the interval with our boys 1-0 up.

In the second half 56ers were looking for the equalizer when, after some good pressure in the midfield, Alex Tran would spring Peter Horner on the counter attack.  Horner calmly prepared the ball, drawing out the goalkeeper, and coolly slotted past for Elm Grove's 2nd goal.  2-0 up, and the Grovers were in good shape.

Our boys would have to absorb pressure from the 56ers, as they were starting to commit more players forward and looking to get back into the match.  Again, our back four stood their ground, and the midfield stayed connected, limiting the options.  The Grovers would kill the game off for good in the closing minutes.  After some compact defending Chris Haeberle would receive the ball, draw two defenders, and slot the ball in behind where Peter Horner was again the recipient.  And again, Horner would finish.

A stylish and productive 3-0 for our U18 Premier team, a massive accomplishment, where they can at last be called State Champions.  Congratulations on winning that elusive State Cup.

Congratulations to the EGSC U16 Boys Select Team and Coach Jim Larkin on winning the Flatgrass Tournament in Neenah this past weekend going 4-0-0, scoring 5 goals and allowing 0, GK Ryan Zingshem recorded 4 shutouts for the weekend.

Elm Grove Staff Coach Bob Gansler named to National Hall of Fame Article below from “ Wisconsin Soccer Central”

Milwaukee's  Bob Gansler has earned yet another accolade in recognition of his remarkable coaching career.  Gansler will be inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame this year in the Builder category, the U.S. Soccer Federation announced Tuesday.  He joins former U.S. national team standouts Eddie Pope, Cobi Jones, Earnie Stewart and Bruce Murray in the Hall's Class of 2011.  The Builder category is for individuals in a non-playing capacity who have "demonstrated a major, sustained and positive impact on U.S. soccer on a national or first division professional level for a minimum of 10 years."

Gansler, a native of Hungary who moved to Milwaukee in 1952, certainly meets those standards.  He started the legendary program at Milwaukee Marquette High School in 1973 and coached there until 1976, was the U.S. Under-19 national team coach from 1979 to '82 and led UW-Milwaukee to a 54-39-8 record from 1984 to '88.

He moved up to the Under-20 national team in 1987, taking that team to the semifinals of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 1989, and was promoted to coach of the full national team on Jan. 16, 1989.  Gansler led the U.S. to the 1990 World Cup in Italy , the Americans' first berth in the tournament in 40 years, and posted a 14-16-6 mark in his three-year tenure with the national team.

He then returned to Wisconsin to take over the Milwaukee Rampage of the United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues, leading them to a 44-30 record and the 1997 A-League title in his three years.  In 1999, Gansler took over the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer and is the club's longest-serving manager, recording an 86-85-1 record before resigning under pressure in July 2006. He led the Wizards to all of their trophies: the Supporters Shield (most points in the regular season) and MLS Cup in 2000 and the U.S. Open Cup in 2004.  Gansler then was an assistant for Toronto FC during its expansion 2007 season in MLS.

He currently is a staff coach for Elm Grove Soccer Club, a consultant for the Wisconsin Olympic Development Program and U.S. Soccer and a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academy instructional staff.  This will be the latest enshrinement for Gansler, who also is a member of at least four other Halls of Fame: the Wisconsin Adult Soccer Association Hall of Fame (1987), the United Soccer Leagues Hall of Fame (2002), the U.S. Adult Soccer Association Hall of Fame (2006) and the NSCAA Hall of Fame (2010).  Additionally, he was presented with the Walt Chyzowych Award for achievement and dedication to the growth of soccer in 2000 and the Werner Fricker Award for creating a lasting legacy in the sport in 2008.  Only one person each year is inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in the Builder category. Gansler, 69, was chosen from a group of seven nominees in voting by a committee of select soccer administrators and Hall of Famers. He finished second in the voting last year.

The Class of 2011 induction ceremony likely will be held this summer. Details will be announced at a later date.
